Wintergreen Golf Academy announces 2014 programs

"get ready to play better golf"

Three updated programs at the Wintergreen Golf Academy are designed to have YOU playing better golf this season.

The "Drive It, Wedge It, Putt It" school is a 3 hour program that covers the three most important clubs in your bag.  For $279, the program moves from the putting green to our expanded short game facility.  The final hour hones in on the Driver where our Academy Professionals will get you hitting it longer and straighter.

Also available is our popular two day school.  For $599 you get eight hours of highly effective  instruction on full swing and short game, video analysis, lunch, on course and an instructional booklet and bag tag.  Lodging is available and an additional cost.

The three day academy gives you 12 hours of instruction for just $849.  Spend three days at our academy and cover all the bases from full swing, short game, uneven lies, on course as well as a professional club fitting.  Lunch is included in this program each day as well as a take home booklet and bag tag.

These schools are offered year round.  Please call our Academy Coordinator at (434) 325-8255 for more details.

2013 Superintendent's Revenge

Steve & Renee Willis teamed with Bruce & Pam Brushwood to take 1st Place in
The 2013 Superintendent's Revenge.

58 players enjoyed a fine breakfast buffet at The Stoney Creek Bar and Grill before teeing it up in the 2013 Superintendent's Revenge on Sunday, November 10th.

All teams enjoyed the Monocan/Shamokin rotation as never before given the creative course set up by Fred Biggers, Kevin Moore and Matt Burch. The sun was spectacular and the wind was howling. The course was in great condition and almost all the greens had one(or two) cups cut in spots that don't usually see much traffic.
Good times had by all. Mark your calender for the 2014 Member events.

Stoney Creek's version of this event is Superintendent's Revenge and will take place on Sunday, November 10 with a breakfast and 11 am shotgun.

Why our greens are so good...

Preventative maintenance is an integral part of successful golf course management. Golfers view aerification as an inconvenience that takes the greens out of play for a day, pulling cores from the greens and leaving holes that can affect putting for many days before healing. To add insult to injury, aerification is best done in many part of the country during mid-summer, at the height of the playing season and when most greens are in prime condition. But a golfer needs to understand how important aerification is to producing healthy turf. Aerification (also known as aeration) achieves three important objectives. It relieves soil compaction, it provides a method to improve the soil mixture around the highest part of a green's roots and it reduces or prevents the accumulation of excess thatch. Like so many things, the quality of a good putting green is more than skin deep.
